Robin Hood Army

I joined the Robin Hood Army during the COVID period with the intention of contributing at the community level during a time of widespread need. RHA operates as a zero-funds organisation, relying entirely on volunteers to bridge gaps between surplus resources and underserved communities.

I became actively involved within the first few months, with a strong focus on education initiatives alongside regular food distribution drives. My sustained participation led to being recognised as Robin of the Month early in my association.

Education initiatives and academies

My primary contribution within RHA has been in building and sustaining community learning academies. I helped establish an education centre in a nearby settlement, which gradually grew as more volunteers joined and participation increased.

  • Taught students from Class 1 to Class 10
  • Designed informal syllabi and learning activities
  • Tracked academic progress and overall development
  • Focused on discipline, confidence, and basic life skills

The academy ran consistently for nearly two years before the settlement was relocated. I later transitioned efforts to another nearby community, where teaching sessions continue to this day.

During COVID, I also taught students remotely through regular video sessions. One of my students, Aarti, whom I mentored throughout this period, is now pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science at Jaypee College, Noida — a moment of deep personal pride.

Food drives and field support

Alongside education, I participated in regular food distribution drives, including late-night and emergency drives. These activities often followed academy sessions and were aimed at providing immediate relief.

  • Participated in regular and midnight food drives
  • Supported ration kit distribution in underserved areas
  • Provided logistical support, including transportation of supplies
  • Stepped in independently when volunteer turnout was limited

Accessibility and inclusion (Visionaries)

In parallel, I volunteered with an organisation focused on accessibility for the visually impaired. I served both as a coordinator and as a voice contributor, helping convert academic and general reading material into audio formats usable by visually impaired students.

I also assisted a blind school and served as a scribe for multiple examinations for a visually impaired student in Noida, supporting her through formal assessment processes.

Related initiatives

In addition to volunteering through established organisations, I am involved in BlessU, a small NGO initiated through my family business. The organisation focuses on food distribution and community support and draws heavily on the grassroots experience I gained through RHA.

Reflection

These experiences reinforced the importance of sustained presence, empathy, and practical action. Working across education, food security, and accessibility shaped my understanding of how consistent effort, even at a small scale, can create lasting impact.
